Swiss Chard
This unique plant adds beautiful vibrant colors to your fall landscape and containers, but wait there’s more… It also makes a tasty addition to your salad!
The color is in the thick stems which can be yellow, gold, orange, pink, violet, red or white. The leaves are crinkly and different shades of green. Even though it is considered an annual this plant has performed as a perennial for us lasting over 3 years.
It loves full sun and will grow to about 20 inches high and wide. The leaves are best harvested when young for salads. You can eat it like spinach. Cutting stalks will promote new growth. We cut the entire plant back to the base several times and it came back as a fresh, new plant.
Swiss Chard can be used as a stand alone plant or with ornamental cabbage, kale, pansies and violas.
