The ‘Summer Red’ Maple is a standout shade tree that brings a season long color show while staying tough enough for the heat and humidity of East Texas.

 

This Maple brings distinctive seasonal color with its burgundy red new growth that appears in spring and continues through summer, creating a striking contrast against the older leaves, which mature to a deep, rich green. In fall, the foliage shifts again to warm yellow tones that brighten the landscape. Summer Reds thrive in Zone 3 – 9 and handles a variety of soils and is native to North America.
 

It grows into a broad, rounded shade tree, typically reaching 35–40 feet tall with a spread around 25 feet. Offering dense summer shade it works beautifully as a specimen tree thanks to its color-changing foliage.
