Purslane

 

 

Purslane is a bright, cheerful blooming annual flower that thrives when our weather begins to heat up. It is perfect for hanging baskets, containers and in flower beds. It only grows 4 to 8 inches tall and is so easy to care for.
 

The blooms close up at night but open up the next morning when the sun rises. The succulent like foliage and strikingly bright yellow, orange, hot pink, or scarlet flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds, but not deer.
 

Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Treat them more like a succulent than a normal flowering annual. They prefer to be drier and don’t require as much water as other annuals. If they begin to yellow it means you’re watering them too much.
 

They will be covered with blooms until the first hard freeze in fall.
