Mighty Mint
Mint is one of my favorite herbs, but only when grown in containers or above ground beds. It is very aggressive when grown in ground and spreads over a large area quickly. This hardy perennial is easy to grow and retains its flavor and aroma from year to year.
It likes moist soil and is easy to grow making it a perfect plant gift for a friend. It grows in sun or part shade and even in a sunny window indoors. You can “harvest” your mint regularly without harming the plant, up to 2/3 of the length of a stem can be clipped at a time.
With so many flavors to choose from it is easy to end up with several varieties – chocolate, apple, spearmint, peppermint, mojito – you’re hooked after a sniff of each. It can be used in savory and sweet recipes as well as in cocktails or as garnishments. Add it cold water for a refreshing taste or make a warm fresh mint tea. Google mint and you’ll find lots of uses for this must have herb.
