Mealybug Mayhem

In early October across East Texas, Mealybugs (resembling white snowflakes) can be seen flying or clustering around plants, but they’re not causing damage to your plants right now. This is because the winged males are primarily focused on mating rather than feeding. Female mealybugs tend to stay put and lay eggs on host plants. While the bugs are spawning, their feeding activity typically slows as temperatures drop and daylight shortens.

If you’re spotting them but not seeing damage, it’s likely part of their reproductive cycle—not a feeding frenzy.
