It’s Time To Fertilize & Trim Azaleas
Once your Azaleas (standard varieties or ReBloomers) have completed their spring bloom it is time to give them a trim and feed them. Use an Azalea fertilizer and follow the directions to determine the proper amount for the size of each plant.
Azaleas should be pruned in a natural fashion, use hand pruners to cut individual branches at the proper spot.. They are not meant to be trimmed with hedge clippers. You want to keep a natural shape to the plant. Prune 3-4” off the bush and try not to cut any branch back by more than a third. You don’t need to cut back to a connecting branch since Azaleas will grow new branches from right below wherever you cut.
