A Little Bit About Fruit Trees
The best time to plant fruit trees is from late December through February according to Texas A&M. You can plant them at other times of the year successfully, but now is the most opportune time. Planting trees while they are dormant allows them to focus all their energy on establishing new roots before the tree begins leafing out.
-
Make sure to choose a good spot for planting – avoid low spots that don’t drain well.
-
Do not plant the tree too deep. Dig the hole no deeper than the existing root ball.
-
Prune the tree as described in the Pruning Trees & Shrubs Series: Fruit Trees
